Boys Varsity Tennis, Girls Varsity Tennis · Panthers Tennis bring home another title

The Jackson County Tennis team traveled to Marietta this weekend for the Marietta Classic Tournament. The Boys team and the Girls team finished on opposite sides of the spectrum. The Girls team started off the tournament facing powerhouse Calhoun. Calhoun proved to be too much for the Lady Panthers, beating them 5-0. The Boys team started off their bracket with a 3-2 win over Newnan County. The three wins came from the three singles players, Kade Graves (6-1,6-1), Nicholas Bergeron (6-3,6-3), and Drake Tatar (6-2,6-1). Both doubles teams lost in third-set tiebreaks, both teams were up in the tiebreaks but couldn’t pull it out. On Saturday, the Lady Panthers faced off against Duluth High School and found themselves in the same situation as Friday night getting swept again 5-0. The Boys team faced off against River Ridge in the second round and picked up their first sweep of the year with scores by Kade Graves (6-2,6-3) Nicholas Bergeron (6-0,6-4), Drake Tatar (6-3,6-4), Bo Reeves and Conrad Satkofsky (6-1,6-2), and the Julian twins (6-1,6-0). The Girls played their last match of the night losing 3-2 and a chance to win with a close Line 2 Doubles match. The Boys faced Hillgrove in the Championship Round and it came down to the wire. Both Panthers doubles teams took hard losses but the singles players pulled through with a win by Drake Tatar (6-2,6-2)  and Nicholas Bergeron (6-1, 6-3) with a win to tie the match up. The match came down to Line 1 singles Kade Graves, who pulled out the win in a second-set tiebreak ( 6-4,7-6 ( 7-3 ) giving the Panthers their second championship in a week. The Panthers play tonight at Oconee County, tomorrow vs Monroe Area and Wednesday vs Morgan County
