Girls Varsity Basketball · History In The Making

Last night, the Lady Panthers took a thrilling win over rival, East Jackson, beating them 44-35. Ashlyn Thompson led in scoring with 12 points, Carson Anderson followed close behind with 9 points, Mikenna Duffy put up 8 points, Kennedy Harris scored 7 points, Naomi Sims had 4 points, and Sydney Hayes and Katie Hitt both had 2 points each.

Maintaining the score and keeping the Lady Eagles from taking the lead was crucial because the Eagles can definitely play some offense.  “The game plan was to press and cause as many turnovers as possible with hopes to convert them offensively. I do believe we were successful with the players sticking to the plan. We played excellent defense and controlled the tempo of the game; our pressing slowed them down,” according to Coach McCutcheon.

Overall, the game had a very good turnout, with it being senior night. Bailee Bejin, Carson Anderson, and Sydney Hayes have played basketball for the past 4 years here at Jackson County Comprehensive School. According to Mrs. McCutcheon, “They definitely have been additive in different ways and then together, they’re just an amazing group; they compliment each other in different ways. It’s a very strong combination.” To Coach McCutcheon, last night was nothing short of special. As long as Coach McCutcheon has been as Jackson County, she has never lost to East Jackson, so to continue the streak; it just meant a lot to her, as well as the seniors.

The region tournament will start next week, but the times and locations are to be determined after the region meeting on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers will take on the Jefferson Dragons on Friday night at 7pm. Make the drive to Jefferson High School and watch the Lady Panthers play their last regular season game before the region tournament.
