The Jackson County Track team hosted the Panther Invitational on Saturday, March 23rd. There was a total of thirteen teams attending the meet, with Tapestry Public Charter School coming all the way from Atlanta.
For the Jackson County boys, Junior Seth Farmer placed top 8 in the 100 meter dash, running it in 11.81 seconds. Seth also ran the 200m, running it in 24.47 seconds and earning a top 12 finish in that event. Junior Armando Gonzalez ran a 2:19 800m, which was good enough for a top 10 placement. Senior duo Dawson Miller and Russell Hendley placed 3rd and 4th in the 3200 respectively. They ran incredible times of 10:06 and 10:19 respectively, with Dawson Miller’s time of 10:06 just 7 seconds off the school record!
The Girl runners did phenomenal as well. Sophomore Madison Miller Placed 2nd in the 400m with a time of 1:02.86, and 4th in the 200m, doing it in 27.35 seconds. Senior Jaycie Ponce destroyed the 800m, winning first place with her time of 2:33.81, which was 4 seconds faster than anyone other girls time. She also got 3rd place in the 400m, with a time of 1:03. Sophomore Rayna Alexander also placed top 3 in an event, with a time of 6:14.
For the Field events, Sophomore Tyler Wester placed 5th place in the Boys long jump, tallying a jump of 18’-04”. Christian Honeycutt, the sole pole vaulter for Jackson County, placed top 8 for the Panthers with a vault of 8’-06”. For the girls long jump, Senior Megan Millian placed top ten with a jump of 14’-05”.
The Panthers run again on April 8th, in Apalachee. Make sure to come out and cheer them on!
